CIREBON, A TOWN CALLED SHIRMP TOWN

Cirebon City is a city located on the northern coast of the island of Java, West Java province, Indonesia. The city which is the link between 3 big cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Bandung and Semarang, makes its location very strategic and close to the coast making the fisheries sector a source of income for the people in the city of Cirebon.

The marine products are also quite diverse, ranging from fish, shrimp, squid, crabs, shellfish, and so on. The most famous seafood of our city is shrimp. Even the name Cirebon itself, comes from two words, namely "Ci" and "Rebon" which in Sundanese, ci or cai means water, while rebon means shrimp. So that Cirebon can be interpreted as a shrimp-producing city. Apart from the place naming factor, the mention of the word Cirebon cannot be separated from the livelihoods of its people who work as fishermen.

Then other jobs developed, such as catching fish and rebon (small shrimp) along the coast which can be used for making shrimp paste. Then there is also the making of petis and salt.

The city of Cirebon, is one of the best producers of shrimp and shrimp paste in Indonesia. Shrimp that are cultivated include rebon shrimp, tiger shrimp, tiger shrimp, and vaname shrimp. The development of shrimp ponds has also spread to the districts of Kapetakan, Gebang, Losari, Astanajapura, Pangenan, North Cirebon and Mundu.

Shrimp production in Cirebon reached 6,684.43 tons, of which the production of rebon shrimp in the Cirebon area which was recorded in 2011 was 8.50 tons. So don't hesitate to order shrimp from our city.

That's a bit of history about the origins of our city. Thank you for taking the time to read our blog.
